Celebrity Chef to Judge Grand Final of Sausage Competition

Award winning chef and food writer Sophie Grigson is to head the panel of judges at this year’s prestigious West Midlands Tastiest Sausage Competition.

HEART of ENGLAND fine foods (HEFF), in association with AGA, is once again on its annual quest to find the best sausages in the West Midlands and is pleased to confirm Sophie Grigson as a judge at the Grand Final for the second year running.  The event will be held at the Mailbox, Birmingham on Thursday 29 January to celebrate Farmhouse Breakfast Week, which runs from Sunday 25 to Saturday 31 January.  Sophie will be joined by a host of other judges including Midlands Today’s Nick Owen and Sarah Falkland.

Sophie said: “I am seriously looking forward to judging the Tastiest Sausage Competition again, last time it was such an enjoyable experience and I can’t wait to do it all again.
“I’m hoping the finalists are going to raise the bar even higher than last year and in these difficult times what better food to cheer us up than a good locally made sausage.”

Before the Grand Final six Sizzle Off competitions will be held to determine a winner from each county.  The finalists will then go head to head at the flagship AGA Shop in the Mailbox and have their sausages cooked and taste tested by the panel of judges to see who will be crowned as having the West Midlands Tastiest Sausage!

The competition will be split into two categories, Tastiest Breakfast Sausage and Tastiest Speciality Sausage.  The sausages will be cooked in the AGA stores and judges will test them against a set of criteria.

The competition was devised in 2001 to coincide with Farmhouse Breakfast Week, a promotion run by the Home Grown Cereals’ Authority to highlight the variety and taste of breakfast products.  It is run in association with AGA with the Sizzle Offs taking place at an AGA shop.
