Eco-Aga by Mrs C. Lee, Newtownards

Three years ago we moved into a ‘roses around the door’ cottage in the country, we can only presume that it was these roses that well and truly tinted our spectacles.

The joy of country living dawned on us at first light with fresh air, peace and scenery the only thing missing was an Aga and a major renovation and extension project which we were about to embark upon.

Before the renovation our energy use was really inefficient and associated costs were relatively high.  Approximately 18 months in, before Christmas 2006, we had the claret oil fired Aga installed and, aside from immediately putting a warm heart into our home, we were able to dispense with electrical appliances such as cooker / hob, kettle, toaster and energy soaking electric shower.

Unwittingly at the time, this was a real eco-friendly move for us and we presume that it would at least make the Aga carbon neutral.  Our subsequent electricity costs are now around a third of what they once were.

In our now eco-friendly world, we have yet to notice Aga promoting this aspect of it’s eco balance, which until now has been our eco-Aga’s best kept secret.
